Cocoa in Agroforestry Systems
A sustainable production system maximizes profit for the farmer by increasing efficiency. Intercropping cocoa with cashew trees provides another income source for the farmer, while maximizing space and water use. This is an example of agroforestry, which when done right uses land in a more diverse, productive, profitable, healthy, ecologically sound way.
Believe it or not, this is "chocolate". It takes 7 to 14 these cocoa pods to produce one pound of dry cocoa beans used to create the sweet treat we know and love.
